The Department of “National and Regional Security” offers a Master’s program in “National and Global Security” with a duration of 2 semesters. The program is available both through state-funded places and paid enrollment for students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree (graduates with a Master’s degree are also eligible to apply) from any field of higher education. The Master’s program is structured in accordance with the national requirements for the educational and qualification degree “Master.”

The rapidly changing conditions and security threats at the national, regional, and global levels, along with the associated processes, necessitate their study, while simultaneously highlighting the need to train professionals capable of managing them effectively. The Master’s program “National and Global Security,” as the successor to the program “Economics of Defense and Security,” is the flagship program of the Department of “National and Regional Security” and attracts significant interest among prospective Master’s students.

The objective of the Master’s program “National and Global Security” is to train highly qualified managerial personnel at middle and senior management levels to meet the needs of public and private organizations in the fields of security and defense, including at the international level.

The objectives of the Master’s program include:

• - Training highly qualified managerial personnel at middle and senior management levels for the needs of the security and defense sector;
• - Expanding and deepening the knowledge and skills of students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in field 3.8 “Economics” at the University of National and World Economy;
• - Encouraging activities that contribute to peace and security at the national and international levels;
• - Introducing and applying modern teaching methods, including the use of state-of-the-art technological tools and instructional methodologies;
• - Involving students in the research activities of the department;
• - Supporting the professional development of students by organizing additional internships in organizations operating in the field of defense and security, including government institutions, private companies, and non-governmental organizations.

The Master’s program includes instruction in current subjects related to the scope and content of the “National and Global Security” specialization. The curriculum includes the following courses: “Public Policy Analysis in Defense and Security,” “European Security Architecture,” “Economics of Defense and Security,” “Cybersecurity,” “Refugees and Forced Migration,” “Operations in Support of International Peace and Security,” “Crisis Management and Sustainable Development,” “Regional Approaches to Global Security,” “Allied Planning and Allocation of Security Expenditures,” and others.

The training in this specialization includes both off-site instruction in business or administrative environments and the use of modern educational technologies, including electronic platforms.

The course of study concludes with the development of a master’s thesis, the topic of which is aligned with the individual interests of the students and takes into account their current or future professional development.

The training in the “National and Global Security” program provides the acquisition of the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:

• - A broad range of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of national and global security, including its economic aspects, as well as the role of the economy in promoting peace at the national, regional, and global levels;
• - The acquisition of in-depth and critical knowledge on issues related to defense and security;
• - Knowledge, understanding, and articulation of theories, concepts, principles, and patterns in the field of international peace and security;
• - Demonstrating critical thinking in understanding key processes in the field of international peace and security;
• - Independently gathering, analyzing, and using in-depth specialized information on events and processes relevant to defense and security;
• - Familiarity with, command of, and application of an extensive conceptual framework;
• - Developing and applying innovative approaches;
• - Formulating sound assessments of the security environment and its related economic, political, and social aspects at both the national and international levels.
